STEP 0

Welcome & Unboxing: Authenticity Check

Before connecting your device, it is paramount to confirm its authenticity. Check the packaging for tamper-proof seals. A genuine Trezor device will have a holographic seal over the USB port or specific security labels on the box. If any signs of tampering are present, **DO NOT PROCEED** and contact Trezor support immediately.

CRITICAL WARNING: Only purchase Trezor devices directly from the official website or authorized resellers. Never accept a device if the factory seals are broken or missing.

Familiarize yourself with the device, the included recovery seed card(s), and the USB cable. Ensure you have a clean, private environment for the next steps.

STEP 1

Connection & Initial Check

Connect your Trezor device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Your computer should recognize the device. Next, navigate to the official setup website. This is the only place you should ever perform the setup.

Official Setup URL:

suite.trezor.io/start

Your device's screen will light up, displaying a welcome message. The website will prompt you to install the Trezor Suite application or continue with the web wallet (Suite is recommended for the best experience).

STEP 2

Installing Official Firmware

The Trezor Suite software will check your device and, if necessary, prompt you to install the latest official firmware. Firmware is the operating system of your hardware wallet. Always use the latest version.

  • The device screen will show a fingerprint.
  • The computer screen will show a matching fingerprint.
SECURITY CHECK: It is vital to visually confirm that the fingerprint shown on your **Trezor screen** exactly matches the fingerprint shown in the **Trezor Suite** software before confirming the firmware installation. This ensures you are installing legitimate software.

Once confirmed, the firmware installation will proceed. **Do not disconnect your device** during this process.

STEP 3

Creating Your Recovery Seed

This is the most critical step. Your Recovery Seed (also known as a Mnemonic Phrase) is a sequence of 12, 18, or 24 words. **It is the ultimate backup of all your digital assets.** If your Trezor is lost, stolen, or destroyed, this seed is the only way to recover your funds.

  1. Choose "Create New Wallet" in the Trezor Suite.
  2. Select the "Standard Seed Backup" option.
  3. The words will be displayed **only on your Trezor device screen.**
  4. Carefully write down the words, in the correct order, on the provided recovery seed card(s).
NEVER DIGITIZE THIS SEED. Do not take a photo, save it to a computer, email it, or store it in cloud storage. Keep it physically safe, ideally in a fireproof or secure location. Anyone who finds this seed can take your funds.

The Suite will then ask you to confirm a few of the words for verification. Do this by entering them through your keyboard based on the numbers requested.

STEP 4

Setting Up Your PIN

A PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required every time you connect your Trezor to a computer to spend funds. It acts as the first line of defense.

When prompted, the Trezor screen will show a random 3x3 grid of numbers (1-9). The Trezor Suite software will show an empty 3x3 grid.

  • You will click on the numbers on the **computer screen** that correspond to the positions of the numbers on the **Trezor screen.**
  • This method prevents keyloggers from capturing your PIN.

Choose a strong PIN (4-9 digits) and enter it twice to confirm.

STEP 5

Accessing the Wallet Dashboard

Congratulations! Your device is now initialized. You can now access the Trezor Suite dashboard. From here, you can:

  • View your cryptocurrency balances.
  • Generate new addresses for receiving funds.
  • Send transactions (requires PIN and physical confirmation on the device).
  • Explore the advanced settings, such as Passphrase (optional, but highly recommended advanced security feature).

Take a few moments to explore the interface and familiarize yourself with the process of generating a receive address.

STEP 6

Final Security Check & Maintenance

Your Trezor is now operational. Maintain the security of your assets with these final reminders:

  1. Store the Recovery Seed: Ensure your recovery seed is secured offline and hidden.
  2. Test the Process: Practice connecting, entering your PIN, and navigating the interface.
  3. Never Trust, Always Verify: Always double-check the receive addresses on both your computer and the Trezor screen before confirming a transaction.
  4. Regular Updates: Keep your Trezor Suite software updated for the best performance and security.
